Akio Miyamoto - Akio is a professor in the Global Agromedicine Research Center (GAMRC) of Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Japan. He is currently interested in crosstalk of sperm and embryos with uterine and oviduct immune systems that appear to be a physiological interaction toward sperm capacitation and embryo development in vivo. Notably, his team has recently identified Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) as a key component in this communication, demonstrating its physiological necessity for fertilization and embryo receptivity in bovine models. He is also investigating immune responses induced by artificial insemination with cryopreserved semen in cattle.
