I am an Assistant professor at the University of Missouri and an early-stage investigator. Research in my lab is focused on understanding the developmental mechanisms that drive normal penis formation and urethra closure. I have been focused on this mission for 12+ years and have combined genetically modified mice, toxicology experiments, new genomic technologies, and bioinformatics to gain a deep understanding of urethra closure. Overall, my primary goal is to uncover the unknown drivers of penile birth defects that afflict nearly 1% of newborn boys and to eventually use that knowledge to identify surgical alternatives or preventatives against this common birth defect.
