Dr. Camilla Hughes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Penn State University. She received a BS in Animal Science and Biology at Virginia Tech. She then completed a PhD in Animal Science with Dr. Joy Pate at Penn State University, focusing on mechanisms of luteal function and rescue in dairy cattle. In 2019, she moved to the University of Montreal and conducted postdoctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Bruce Murphy, focusing on understanding ovarian reserve establishment and depletion, using the mouse model. Current research in the Hughes laboratory primarily focuses on ovary-immune cell interaction, investigating mechanisms of ovarian reserve establishment and depletion, luteinization, and luteal responsiveness to prostaglandins. The long-term goal of her research program is to generate an improved understanding of ovarian development and function, to improve fertility and productivity of livestock animals and address the problem of infertility in aging humans.
