Kieran graduated from the School of Agriculture and Food Science in University College Dublin, Ireland in after a degree in Animal Science and subsequently completed a PhD in Molecular Genetics. Kieran’s research has taken him across three continents spanning Europe, ILRI in Africa and to North America working on infectious disease models in multiple livestock species. A significant proportion of Kieran’s work to date has focused on the discovery and characterisation of Host Defence Peptides in multiple livestock species. Kieran has expanded his research programme to encompass the role of vitamin D in the activation of endogenous host immune mechanisms as a means to drive host resilience and resistance to infection and to develop more sustainable animal production systems. Kieran is also the Director of the MSc in Animal Science in UCD.
