Vimal Selvaraj is a Professor of Integrative Physiology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. His research is driven by foundational questions in reproductive and mitochondrial biology. He is recognized for overturning longstanding dogma and resolving irreproducible findings surrounding the mitochondrial translocator protein (TSPO), and for elucidating the mechanism of mitochondrial cholesterol import in steroidogenesis. His recent work applies systems biology to address barriers in reprogramming somatic cells to pluripotency in cattle, leading to novel insights into early embryonic development and the discovery of a core mechanism governing self-renewal in trophoblast stem cells.
