Ramses Santacruz-Márquez is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Comparative Biosciences at the University of Illinois. Currently, Ramses' research is focused on evaluating the effects and mechanisms involved in ovarian function disruption induced by phthalate exposure. Phthalates are compounds heavily used in different products that can be found in many environmental and biological matrices. Studies have found that phthalate exposure might be accelerating reproductive aging. However, very little is known about aging in the ovary and the underlying mechanisms by which phthalates accelerate ovarian aging. Thus, Dr. Santacruz Marquez studies the mechanisms by which phthalates accelerate aging.
